Our Story

Before Alaska Laundry Lady was a business, it was a turning point…

In March of 2024, I left my home with my five children, the youngest of whom was a newborn. We believed we would only be gone for a few days; however, March 17th was the last night we spent in what we thought would be our “forever home.” When we left, we had almost nothing with us—just three outfits per kiddo and the determination that things had to change. Like many families navigating domestic violence, safety had to come first. Everything else could be figured out later.

In those early days, even the simplest parts of everyday life suddenly became complicated.

Laundry.
School clothes.
Clean pajamas.
Towels for bath time.

When you are living out of bags, sharing space, and trying to hold your family together through uncertainty, something as basic as clean clothing can quickly become an overwhelming challenge.

For the next seven months, our family lived in a season of transition. During that time, our focus became something deeply important: building a life with a foundation of safety, stability, and independence. We found comfort and strength within our community and connected with incredible advocates who helped guide us forward. Organizations like AWAIC (Abused Women’s Aid in Crisis) helped provide resources and support as we navigated the realities of leaving domestic violence behind. At the same time, I began working closely with NineStar Education and Employment Services, focusing on building a path toward long-term stability and opportunity.

While navigating legal systems, advocacy programs, and community resources, I made the decision to return to school in order to complete my RN degree. I want to provide lasting stability for my children—something that can permanently change the trajectory of our family for generations to come.

It was a lot to carry at once—five kids, school, paperwork, appointments, court dates, and my own healing—but step by step, things began to fall into place.

In the fall of 2024, after months of uncertainty, we found what we now call our “right now home.” It was safe. It met our needs. It is owned by an amazing couple who have encouraged me in more ways than they probably realize. I continue on the path toward self-sufficiency with the same priority of maintaining safety for my family, but also with a determination to assist others who may be on a similar journey.

Life is about more than just surviving—it is about building a life with safety, stability, and community as its foundation.

One day while sitting in the Department of Public Assistance office, I had an “ah-ha” moment that would change everything. What if I started a laundry pickup and delivery service?

Something flexible enough to work around my college schedule while raising five tiny humans.
Something that solved a real problem for other busy families in Anchorage.

After all, laundry is something every household deals with.

During our months of transition, I saw firsthand how closely dignity is tied to something as simple as clean underwear. Clean clothing helps children walk confidently into school. Fresh laundry helps parents show up to job interviews ready for opportunity. Access to laundry facilities and services helps families feel organized and capable even during difficult seasons.

It wasn’t until someone told me that laundry pickup was a luxury service and that I should charge accordingly that my brain started turning a second time. Something about that statement didn’t sit right with me. Because access to clean laundry and dignity should never be considered a luxury.

That belief is how Alaska Laundry Lady LLC was born. What started as a flexible way to support my family quickly grew into something bigger: a service designed to give people time back, lighten their mental load, strengthen community, and make everyday life a little easier for everyone. What if laundry could be as simple as placing a bag outside your door and receiving it back fresh, folded, and ready for life?

As Alaska Laundry Lady began to grow, something unexpected happened. The idea behind the business expanded into something much larger than laundry alone. Conversations with advocates, community partners, and families navigating difficult seasons made one thing clear: many people in our community simply need a little breathing room while they work to stabilize their lives.

That is how Loads of Relief began to take shape.

Loads of Relief was created to help bridge the gap for families embracing difficult transitions. Building stability and independence often feels impossible when you are overwhelmed by the weight of everything happening around you. Something as “simple” as laundry can make the difference between feeling defeated and feeling ready to move into a better tomorrow.

Through referrals from advocacy centers, community organizations, churches, and workforce programs, Loads of Relief provides temporary laundry support to families who need a little help during difficult moments so they can focus on building their own safety, stability, and opportunities for growth.

You may notice fireweed woven throughout our brand. In Alaska, fireweed is often the first plant to grow after a wildfire—after everything seems to have been destroyed. It is a beautiful symbol of resilience, renewal, and the quiet truth that life continues even after hardship.

That meaning felt deeply personal to our story. Our journey has never just been about leaving something behind—it has been about what grows when safety, stability, and hope become the foundation of a family.

Today, Alaska Laundry Lady is more than a laundry service. It is a small, Alaska-owned, mom-run business rooted in resilience, community, and the belief that everyday support can make a world of difference. Our family is still writing the next chapter of our story, but we are doing it safely while embracing happiness, stability, and healthy opportunities that will guide future generations to become contributing members of their community.

Every garment I fold and return to a customer feels like a reminder that new beginnings are possible—and that one small act for another person can change the trajectory of a life.

Today, Alaska Laundry Lady is more than a laundry service—it is a reminder that small acts of care can make a meaningful difference in someone’s day. Every basket of laundry returned is an opportunity to give a family a little more time, a little more breathing room, and a little more dignity as they move forward. Our journey continues to grow from a foundation of safety, stability, and community, and we are honored to serve the families who trust us with something as personal as their laundry. Because caring for your clothes is really about something bigger—giving you time for your life.

From our family to yours, thank you for being part of this journey.
